Vintage Toys, Barbies and Pennants!

This weekend I attended a large flea market/tag sale event. This is the one where there are a lot of dealers but there are also people just selling stuff from their home at tag sale prices.

The first item I bought was this glass seal signed Villeroy and Boch. I have bought ceramic items by them and didn’t know that they made glass too. He was $3 and I am hoping to sell him for $20.

P1400915

I bought 2 Barbie dolls from the Twilight Saga movies. I was a big fan of the books years ago so I recognized these right away. They actually came from two separate sellers and were each $5.

Speaking of finding things in pairs, I also purchased 2 Lightning McQueen Cars items. One is this rolling child’s suitcase. The other is a Halloween costume that is being washed so I haven’t photographed it yet. The suitcase seems to be selling for about $40 with free shipping. It’s pretty big so I imagine that shipping costs are going to take out a big percentage of the $40!

P1400959

My favorite finds of the day were two Liddle Kiddle items. One is this Liddle Kiddle Kologne Rosebud doll with her bottle. I used to love these! I still do!!

The other was a Liddle Kiddles Jewelry Treasure Box. It had a few Finger Ding dolls inside. It would have been better if it had the original Liddle Kiddles inside. I love the colorful graphics.

The most surprising find of the day was a group of vintage pennants. The surprising part was that the lady only wanted 25 cents for each one. I purchased about 5 but here are the best ones.

The worst part of the day was when I decided to go back to the car to unload and then continue shopping, and then couldn’t find the car. I had set a landmark for myself of 3 red and white stripped tents. I found the tents but couldn’t find my car. I walked around for about 30 minutes and couldn’t find it. I finally walked in a different direction to see if there was another set of three tents with red and white stripes and guess what? There was. Finally found my car. It was pretty funny though because as I was walking around I met a couple that couldn’t find their car either. I was starting to think that they were towing cars or something but maybe they were making the same mistake I had. The bad thing was that by the time I found the car and dumped off my stuff I was pretty done. I did go back for a little bit but I had really had it by then.

It was fun before the car incident. A small haul but a good day.

Summer Fun with Sunglasses, Jewelry and a Christmas Elf!

There were some summer themed finds this weekend. I picked up two pairs of sunglasses at the first church sale I went to for a quarter each! The first pair are Kate Spade and I believe they are decorated with Swarovski crystals. They have an unusual exaggerated cat eye shape. The second pair are some kind of safety sunglasses. I guess for people that are doing dangerous things in the sun?

There was a small box of Barbie dolls. I try to check for older Barbies and this time I found one. I believe she is a Titian bubble cut Barbie. Her information on her bottom is worn down and I can’t see her date or country of origin. Her paint is very rubbed off in areas but I’m hoping that someone will buy her to restore.

P1400773

I picked up this bobble head of Will Ferrell from the Christmas movie “Elf.” I loved that movie! I am hoping to get $20 for him.

P1400784

In a box of small toys I found a sealed pack of Pokemon cards and a Power Ranger monster. It took me a long time to figure out the name of the Power Ranger character. I was looking up every combination of snake, dragon, reptile, lizard, Godzilla and alien that I could think of. I finally asked a Facebook reselling group and someone told me that his name is Snizzard. I would never have come up with that.

At the second sale I picked up this round bottomed copper mixing bowl and a mid century teak desk organizer.

The jewelry was marked $1 each. I bought these Laurel Burch bird themed earrings. She is most famous for her cats but does pieces with many different kinds of animals.

P1400864

I found these two paint by number dog paintings at a tag sale. I don’t usually have much luck at regular tag sales but at $2 each I though this was a good purchase. They are super cute!!

The weather has started to heat up here in the northeast! Summer is almost here!!

Ceramics, Silver and Seals!

The first church sale I went to this weekend had a $10 early bird. I’ve been to about 4 sales so far this season that have had $10 early bird fees that were really not worth it but I think this one was. There were lots of figurines, ceramics and small items marked $1 or $2 which gives you the opportunity to use your best judgement (there is no time to look anything up) and take some chances.

For $1 I picked up a ziploc bag filled with Hagen Renaker figures. When I sorted through them more than half of them were broken. I was left with 13. I listed them for $19 and they sold immediately. I think the sea gull figure is a rare one.

P1400627

I love the color on this turquoise bowl which was marked Red Wing. I know that is a good name in pottery so I purchased it for $2. When I got it home I saw that it had two long cracks on the inside plus a chip on the edge. After researching it, I believe it is a piece from the 1940’s and even with the condition issues I am still hoping to get at least $24 for it.

After buying a piece of Lladro last weekend I was on the look out and found this piece marked Nao Lladro. I don’t know what the difference is between this and regular Lladro. This girl reminded me of the Lladro ballerinas that my mother used to collect. Eventually most of the fingers on my mother’s pieces were damaged. I was happy to see that was not the case on this pretty figure. She was $2.

P1400619

Last year I purchased a bowl shaped like an eggplant from the company Mottahedeh. I remember that the bowl had a chip and would have sold for a lot if it was perfect. I think I ended up selling the damaged one for $25 after a while. So I recognized the name Mottahedeh when I saw it on the bottom of this trinket dish illustrated with a sailing ship. It was marked $1.

P1400615

This stone carving of a seal has a very charming look. It has a sticker that says Canada Eskimo art. It is very heavy. There is a big price range on these but I am hoping to get at least $19 for him. He was $2.

P1400590

There were many items there marked between $5 and $10 but I stayed away from those. I ventured into the jewelry room after the rush was over. Most items were marked $4.00. I picked up three items and I think two of them are good. One is a cat head pin marked 925 and the other is a panel and link bracelet with a pyramid design marked Sterling. Both are marked Mexico.

In the toy area I picked up two bags of Littlest Pet Shop toys for $3 each and a vintage Fisher Price little people set in the original box. I have not had time to photograph these items yet.

Later on in the day I went to two other community sales. At the first one I picked up a few items that were marked 25 cents including a vintage set of rainbow drip candles. I believe these were used in the 70’s to make craft projects using bottles. I picked up a paint by number of a German Shepherd and a Janie and Jack visor for a baby.

I arrived at the last sale fairly late and they were doing fill a bag for $5. I picked up a pretty vintage teapot and a set of delft tiles representing the four seasons.

The tag sales have really picked up around here – the challenge is to find the treasures at low prices!!

Vintage Toy Cars and Mini Swarovski!

The first church sale I went to today had my favorite prices – 25 cents, 40 cents and 75 cents. There were high prices too but I stayed in the low range and picked up some fun items. They had a toy area where I found this set of Nylint vintage cars. The red car is a Grand Prix Special that comes with a car trailer. It has a crack in the roof but I am going to try to get $30 for the set.

P1400389

The other vintage car I bought is this Tonka horse trailer. It has two problems which are a name written on it and a crack in the plastic top. I am going to try to get $14 for this. There is also supposed to be a horse with this set.

P1400428

I saw this sitting there with a 25 cent sticker on it. It is a part of a Fisher Price Little People doll house. People search for pieces to make their set complete so I am putting this up for $10.

P1400363

This figure is pretty wrecked but he is also old. I’m not sure if I will list him. His face looks quite strange. Its Donald Duck from Disney looking like he’s had a few too many.

P1400367

I also attended a community tag sale in a parking lot where I found a plush Kermit the Frog by Fisher Price. I recently sold a similar one but it was a puppet.

P1400383

The find of the day was a group of Swarovski miniatures which I am tempted to keep. I believe that they are worth about $30 each and the lady charged me $5 each. There is a tea set, champagne set, birthday cake and a wine set which is missing the cups. The tea set is my favorite. She gave me the wine set for free because it was missing the cups. I actually passed on it and she came running after me at the sale and just gave it to me!

Those are my purchases for this weekend! Better get listing!!

Mid Century, American Girl and Toys

Sales were good this weekend although I did pay up a bit. Hopefully it will be worth it. I found some cool mid century items such as this wooden cat by Laurids Lonborg who I believe is a Danish artist.

P1390923

I love this wooden Swedish girl dressed in colorful traditional clothes. She is a double candle holder. Next to it I found this heart shaped plate of JFK with Jackie. This plate isn’t valuable but it was only 50 cents.

Another vintage item I picked up was this wooden piece. At first I thought it was an old bowling pin but now I believe it is a potato masher. It’s quite heavy and could probably also be used as a weapon if you were mashing potatoes and an intruder came into your house.

P1390936

At two of the sales I went to I was able to purchase some American Girl doll items. I picked up a vintage Bitty Baby marked Pleasant Company and several American Girl pets plus accessories for them.

I bought two pretty wicker chairs from a set made for the doll Samantha.

P1390969

There were also some clothes and other American Girl accessories as well.

Some other toys that I picked up this weekend include a Calico Critters house with some furniture and accessories and a My Twinn doll that has some issues.

I was excited at first about the My Twinn doll but after I got her home I realized she has some issues including no eyebrows, very short bangs which may have been cut and some short eyelashes that look like they were cut. I don’t know how much this will affect her value. I need to make some good money because theses items, plus some others cost me about $100. Yikes.

That’s about it for this weekend. Looking forward to getting this all listed!

Thrifty Finds and a Visit to the Bins!

Not much yet in the way of exciting sales here. I attended one little flea market that had a White Elephant room. I found a few things there for $3. There was a small amount of jewelry on a table marked at 50 cents each. I picked up three pins. The first is a pewter pin that was marked Frederick Canada. After researching I discovered that it represents a stylized raven which is a symbol of knowledge and creativity. I have it up for $15. I picked up a Trifari pin of a leaf. Unfortunately it is missing several rhinestones so I am selling it as a repair piece. I am hoping to get $10 for it.

The third is a geometric style pin. I don’t have a testing kit so I took it to a jeweler. He tested it and said it is silver with gold plated lines. It looks like the opal is fake. (Would you call that a fauxpal? Ha ha)

P1390655

The other item that I picked up there is this sweet plush sleeping Bambi. It is also musical and plays a lullaby when you wind it up. It is by Gund and may bring around $30.

P1390624

I picked up this Japanese anime style doll at the thrift store. I think she is a Takara Jenny doll although she is not marked. She was in a doll bag for $2.99. I love her costume!

When I pulled her out of the bag I noticed she was wearing a necklace that didn’t seem to belong to her. It turned out to be a necklace for an American Girl doll tennis outfit. That’s called a freebie!

P1390522

Also at the thrift store I picked up a Winnie the Pooh trinket box featuring Pooh eating honey surrounded by pumpkins and other fall items. It was in a bag for $1.99 and I picked it up because I had recently sold a similar box for $12.99.

P1390537

My last purchase from the thrift store was this Today NBC mug featuring the logo of the morning show. You can drink your coffee and pretend to interview someone.

P1390515

I have a few days off this week so I decided to take a trip to the Bins which is the Goodwill Outlet store. I don’t go often because it is about 1 1/2 hours away from me. Including this trip I have been there a total of 4 times. The first 2 times were fairly successful. The last time I went was pretty unsuccessful (I sold only one item that I picked up on that day.) I don’t sell clothes usually so I go for the hard goods they have there. Today was the first time that I was actually there when they brought out new bins of hard goods so that was exciting. I think I found some good items and since it is pay by weight, I spent only $16.00.

One of my favorite items was this pair of Disney plush which is Mrs. Jumbo and her baby Dumbo. Their label says Disney Parks. I found Mrs. Jumbo first, and then, a few feet away, found Dumbo. It think they are really cute. Mrs. Jumbo is a good example of a secondary character from a movie that sells well. Often the main characters are so abundant that they have little value. I am hoping to get $30 for the pair.

P1390591

I picked up a pair of vintage My Little Pony tray puzzles from 1983. One of them has some writing on it but I am going to try for $12 for the pair.

P1390603

These next items are unusual. I believe that they are vintage spun wool animals. They are also made with felt and pipe cleaners. I can’t find these exact items online but similar items seem to be selling for about $10 each. They are only about 3″ tall. When you hunt through the hard good bins there are all these small items that go to the bottom of the bins. Sometimes you can finds Littlest Pet Shop animals or Playmobil figures. Today I found these.

P1390623

I picked up two bags. One is a Victoria’s Secret cosmetic case. The second is a vintage red leather bag marked Cristian Made in Italy.

I picked up a few more vintage items from the bins including a metal mid century wall organizer in rough shape,

P1390638

a hexagonal lampshade featuring botanical flower artwork,

P1390634

and a funky melamine tray from Ikea.

P1390642

Those are the highlights of what I found there today.  It was a fun trip! Hope you are enjoying some good sales and weather wherever you are!

Limoges Minis, Vintage Toys and a Gavel

This season is starting out slow for me. I am finding many items that I can only sell for about $10 or so. With all the fees, that makes it hard for me to make much profit. I went to a few sales this weekend. I’ll show you the more interesting items I found.

My favorite find was this collection of miniature Limoges. This was from a tag sale and they were $3 each. I didn’t have an idea of value but I was charmed so I purchased 6 of them. Most of them only sell for about $6 but I can’t find the hat or the suitcase so I don’t know about those. They’re really sweet and I will enjoy them until they sell. They are only about 1″ tall. There are only 5 pictured because one was broken.

P1390451

My second favorite find were these two plastic rabbit candy holder/Easter decorations. I recognized them because I found a pink one a few weeks ago. They were 25 cents each and I am hoping to get $16 for the pair. I really love the vintage holiday items!

P1390426

Another fun find for $1 each were these three pewter figurines featuring mice having holiday fun. I couldn’t find these anywhere to research them so I am putting them up as a lot for $29.

P1390432

I picked up several vintage plush items which may bring $10 each.  These include a Maisy the Mouse, a Heathcliff and two Cabbage Patch doll pets. I believe all these items were from the 1980’s.

I also found another Fisher Price Happy Apple which I have sold several of before.

P1390437

An interesting find, though not very valuable, was this vintage gavel. It has dates on it 64, 65 and 69 with initials next to each date. There is also an emblem of some sort. Maybe I should bring it to my preschool classroom and bang it on the table when the kids get rowdy.

P1390477

So, as you can see there were not too many exciting finds this weekend. Hopefully I will be able to at least make back the money I spent. I hope things will improve and hope you are all having better luck and enjoying some spring weather!!
