Dansk, American Girl, FAO Schwarz and Italian Pottery

Recently there have been days of no finds at the thrift store, followed by days of great finds. I guess the idea is to “just keep swimming.”

I have been finding some nice pottery. This is a piece of Italian pottery marked La Musa. It is a heart shaped trinket box with a very cool modern graphic. I paid $4 for it at Goodwill and it sold quickly for $29. I was glad I was able to list it before Valentines Day and maybe that’s why it sold so fast.

P1430853

This sugar and creamer set is by Dansk. I love the abstract blue and white decoration. It is a pattern called Arabasque. This was also from the Goodwill and I was happy to be able to find all three pieces of this set even though they were in different spots on the shelf. I paid $6 for the set but I am hoping to get $50 for it.

P1430963

I thought this mid century modern dog salt shaker marked Japan was too cool to leave behind. Unfortunately it didn’t have its mate and I don’t think it will bring more than $10 but I still think he’s awesome.

P1430929

Two more ceramic pieces I bought are this blue and white Mottahedeh plate and this Taylor & Ng naughty dog mug. There is a series of Taylor & Ng mugs featuring different types of animals in “playful” positions.

In the plush area I picked up this Noah’s Ark by FAO Schwarz. It is missing the mate to the giraffe set. I have sold this same item a few years ago. I think it sold for $20 then.

P1430867

My most exciting find recently was this American Girl doll who was in with the regular toys and marked $4. She is a doll named Nellie. Unfortunately she didn’t come dressed but I was still happy to find her!

Those are some finds for the first half of February. Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone!!

Villeroy & Boch, Scandinavian Tiles, Plush and Dolls!

This has been another week of visits to the thrift store. I find myself going more and more often. I think I may have some sort of thriftaholic problem but I keep finding good items so, the question is – are all addictions unhealthy? Anyway – that’s a question for another day. Let me tell you some of the items I found.

I always look in the doll area, mostly on the off chance that they have let an American Girl doll slip through but this time I found a My Twinn doll. These are the 23″ dolls from the 90’s that you could customize to look like yourself. They went out of business a while ago and there is a market for them. She was $7. I have found these before and they have sold after a while for between $30 and $40. This one was in very good condition and sold quickly for $50. She also came with her complete outfit – down to the shoes and socks.

While I was there I saw some Twelve Days of Christmas themed tiles. They were signed and were only $1 each. I tried to look them up on my phone but since my reception was bad at the time, I couldn’t and I left them there. After I got home I looked them up and saw that they were Scandanavian and could sell for between $9 and $15 each. I got so frustrated that I didn’t trust myself to buy them in the first place that I got back in the car and drove back to the thrift store. Happily they were still there and I picked up three of them. The one below has already sold for $12.95.

P1430791

While I was there I noticed that they had put out some Villeroy and Boch pieces. I bought a serving platter, a bowl and a sugar and creamer set. The sugar bowl was missing the lid and I ordered a replacement off Ebay because I think I can sell it for a good price if the set is complete. The pieces below were $5 each. I am hoping to get $20 for the platter. I don’t know if the bowl will sell because it is missing the lid.

When I went back later in the week I found a really fun police woman puppet. She is huge at 30″ and I love and want to keep her. But I’m not going to. I hope at least she doesn’t sell until after community helper week at preschool where I can use her for the kids. Her uniform is amazingly detailed.

P1430800

The best find of the week was this large Simba plush. I had read that the large Mufasa or older Simba can go for about $500. Apparently these Simba cub versions can go for about $200.

P1430765

Those are my pick ups for this week. Happily there were no big storms to trap me inside this week!

Thrifty January Finds: Dansk, Gund, Toys and More!

Winter carries on with very little in the way of interesting estate sales for me so I have been going to the thrift stores to source items and have found a few good ones. Several weeks ago I picked up this aqua Dansk Kobenstyle lidded pot. This is the same one my mother had which we sold at her tag sale for $3 before I knew any better. These enamel pots have a following with some colors being more desirable than others. I am hoping for $40 on this but that might be a little high. It was $6.

P1430545

This Quimper plate from France was $3. Many Quimper pieces have these distinctive looking figures on them. The plates aren’t too valuable but I couldn’t leave it behind.

P1430655

These cute miniature elephants were in a baggie for $3. They are marked Japan on the bottom and I am hoping for about $15 on them. Each plays a different instrument. Too cute for me to resist picking up!

P1430710

This is a set of jingle bells on a leather strap that hangs on the door. It is made by a Pennsylvania based company called Belsnickel. Too bad I didn’t pick these up before Christmas. They make a lovely sleigh bell sound.

P1430709

I found two things in the stationery/office supply department. The first is this binder with cool Asian inspired graphics. It was only $.99 and I am hoping to get $10 for it.

P1430634

The next thing I found in the stationery area was actually not stationery at all. It looked like a passport case but it is a Lauren Hutton make-up palette! Surprise! It was $4 and I am hoping to get $40 for it.

In the picture area I found a large paint by number of a ship wreck. They sometimes take a while to sell but I have sold every paint by number picture that I have listed. I will use key words like “nautical, beach and ocean” for this listing. It was $6 and I am hoping to get $40 for it.

P1430700

I also found a few toys this month including a walking, roaring Jurassic Park T-Rex which unfortunately is missing the battery cover, a Calico Critters car and nursery school and a plush Gund Snuffles bear.

This is how I’ve been keeping myself entertained through this cold, snowy New England winter. Hope you all are doing well!

Top Ebay Sales of 2017 – Mixed Categories

There is such a variety of items out there to buy and sell. Here are my top ten sales on eBay, not including dolls, toys and games.

Starting at the lowest price is this vintage baseball trophy dated 1955. I think that some of it may be bakelite. It had a cool look and although I didn’t have any experience with similar items I took a chance for $3. It sold for $39.99.

P1420804

This pin was thrown on a table at a rummage sale. I think I was charged $1 for it. It was marked 800 silver and had inlaid stone in it which is, I found is called Pietra Dura. I though it was very pretty and unique. I like the subject matter of birds on a birdbath. It sold for $45.

P1410875

These small egg cups were so charming! They are marked “Cutie Pie” and there are several items with this same style. I picked these up for $5 at an estate sale. Even though one had a small hole in the center, the pair sold for $49.99

P1400143

This pyrex piece was marked $5 at another rummage sale. I looked up “black roosters” and it appeared that this was a rare pattern. It had some slight discolorations but still sold for $55.

P1410374

Anri is a company in Italy that produces many intricately carved wooden figures. I picked this up because of the subject matter and the fine detail. Only after I brought it home did a see a faint Anri mark on the bottom. It sold for $59.99.

P1390739

I was at a rummage sale not finding too much when I started looking at the linens. This duvet cover was marked Lilly Pulitzer, $2. I was surprised to find it as I had come very late to this sale. It sold for $99.99. Her prints are usually so colorful and distinctive, they are hard to miss.

P1430284

This vintage framed print was $10 at a library rummage sale. It is entitled “A Yard of Puppies” and that’s literally what it is. It wasn’t easy to ship but I was happy to do it when it sold for $99.99.

P1420527

This is a small ceramic leaf dish turned out to be a Stig Lindberg design. I believe he is a Scandinavian artist. I found this in one of the bags that hangs in the thrift store. Don’t overlook the bags! It sold for $99.99.

P1380816

Also don’t overlook vintage skin care products. This was $10 at a rummage sale. I looked it up before I purchased it and was surprised. Most of the items weren’t even sealed. It is called Airbonn Nutrimin skin care and sold for $125.

P1400473

This is the highest selling item I sold all year. It is similar to one I found in 2016 which is why I recognized it. I picked it up for $10 at a rummage sale. It is mid century modern nail wall art and sold for $200.

P1410446

Well – that’s it! I think I’m done now with the “Best Of” blog entries! Thanks to everyone who took the time to read this. Wishing everyone the very best for the new year and may  you all be successful in your endeavors!

Best Toy and Game Sales of 2017

I usually do a best plush sales of the year blog but this year I didn’t really sell too much plush so I am including them in the toy and game category. These are my top 10 toy and game sales on Ebay for 2017 plus one honorable mention.

This little duck is an origami rubber ducky. He is an honorable mention. I thought he was so unique and I couldn’t find another one anywhere. I picked him up at the thrift store for $1. He sold for $20.

P1380961

In the plush category, this watercolor Build A Bear Hello Kitty sold for $34.99. I don’t come across many Build A Bears that have value but I know that some of them do. This one was unusual looking and since I am a Hello Kitty fan I researched it and found that it would sell for a good price. It was important that it came with it’s detachable pink bow.

P1390495

I found this vintage board game at a school sale for $2 and fell in love with the little Hawaiian Punch mover pieces. This colorful game was complete and sold for $44.99.

P1420878

Pokemon can sell well and Tamagotchi’s can sell well so combine the two and you’ve got a good item. This is a Pokemon Pikachu Tamagatchi. It was new in the package however, I crushed the package under another item that I bought at the same sale and cut the value of this item in half. Good going me! It still sold for $49.99.

P1410313.jpg

I love to find vintage Fisher Price. This is the hospital set that came with some of the Little People and accessories. It was picked up at a church sale for $5. I was very surprised to find it because it was about 2 hours after the sale had begun and I expected all the good items to be gone. It sold for $49.99.

P1420292

Shaker Maker is a toy from my childhood, in the 1960’s. I found this set at an estate sale, nearly complete and it even came with the powder solution. I picked it up for $3 and it sold for $59.99.

P1380330

I keep waiting for the Littlest Pet Shop resale bubble to burst but it hasn’t happened yet. This lot was $5 at a library sale, it included 39 pets and sold for $59.99.

P1420469

Also in the plush category, I found this Brer Fox Folkmanis puppet at a very expensive tag sale where they had researched everything and priced it all at Ebay prices. Except for the puppets. I bought this one for $5 and it sold for 64.99.

P1400211

Many years ago I picked up a vintage Park and Shop board game that was incomplete and in very bad condition but what I learned at the time was that, in good condition, these games sell well. This summer I found this one in beautiful condition and complete and it sold for $72.99.

P1410244

The new King Kong movie had just come out when I found this guy. He was very detailed and I felt like he was good quality. He was also quite large and heavy. I paid $4 for him and a church sale and sold him for $74.99. He looks so happy to have been sold for that much!

P1410779

I knew that these oversized Tinkertoys were valuable but I didn’t think I wanted to deal with the shipping headache. I saw these at a tag sale and when the guy said they were only $5 I was like “bring on the shipping headache!” I shipped them in their original box and they sold for $89.99.

P1410171

Those are my top ten toy and game sales for 2017!

Best Doll Finds of 2017

There were lots of wonderful dolls to be found this year. This Liddle Kiddles doll in a perfume bottle was found at a tag sale/flea market for $2. I love finding Liddle Kiddles because I had them as a child. This one still had it’s sweet smell. It sold for 19.99.

This Happy Haley doll from the 1960’s was found at an estate sale for about $1. I picked her up because she has those mod oversized sad looking eyes and she sold for 29.99.

P1380273

This funny looking Drowsy Baby doll is a repro of a 1964 doll. It is from 1984 and says phrases like “I’m so sleepy.” Often repro dolls do not have any value but in this case they do. This one sold for $29.99. I think I paid $3 at a rummage sale.

P1410130

These dolls are designed in Japan and I believe are called Licca or Jenny dolls. The company is Takara Tomy. Their faces are in the style of the anime cartoons with big pretty eyes.  I have found a few of these at the thrift store. This one had a beautiful traditional style outfit on and sold for $34.99. I believe she cost about $3.

P1390501

This Madame Alexander doll came from a community tag sale for $2. She is from the Hannah Pepper series which is what makes her valuable. She measures about 9″ tall and sold fairly quickly for $40.

P1400123

Modern Barbie dolls flood the market but some are still valuable. Some of the dolls from the Twilight series can have good value. This doll is Alice. She was $5 and although she appeared new she had become detached from the box. She sold for $49.99.

P1400905

Sometimes an older doll that ordinarily would have no value can have some value if you find it new in the box. This Stella Winx fairy doll was at the thrift store for $5 and sold for $49.99

P1380716

I was excited to find this lot of Madeline dolls in the carrying case at a rummage sale for $4. These 8″ plastic dolls are made by Eden and sell best in lots or if you can find them new in the package. This took a while to sell but finally sold on a best offer for $53.

P1410930

Many American Girl dolls are not as valuable as they used to be but are still worth picking up if you can get them for a good price. I bought this Felicity doll for $25 and she sold for $79.99.

P1390830

I paid up for this vintage Sasha doll at $40 and sold her for $140. Sasha dolls are from Germany and have very strange, I mean distinctive faces. They come as boys, girls and babies and have a range of values.

P1420663

Those are my top 10 doll finds that were resold on Ebay, for 2017!

Small Estate Sale Haul

So I was sick and going to the doctor and there was an estate sale just 15 minutes from the doctor’s office so… you know – hauling is the best medicine anyway.

When I walked in there were a bunch of miniature items on the table that the guy said were 2 for a dollar. I recognized this bunny as an Erzgebirge figure. He has some condition issues but for 50 cents I couldn’t pass him up.

P1430508

On the same table was this sweet little bear that I learned is made of Cryptomeria style wood. I recently sold a cat and mouse in the same style for $16.99 so I picked this guy up.

P1430504

I have sold a few vintage wedding items in the past and this cake topper was too funny to pass by.

P1430515

This pretty angel is an Anri/Reuge musical figure but her mechanism no longer works. If it did she would have a value of about $40. I’m hoping someone might want to purchase her for around $20.

P1430520

I spent $5 in all from that sale. I also recently went to the thrift store where I picked up a bag of earrings for $3 because the colors reminded me of Bakelite. There were three pair in the bag and one pair actually turned out to be Bakelite.

P1430498

So that’s my little holiday haul. Enjoy the holidays everyone!!!
